Back in June, news broke that Shake Shack, the popular New York City (booo!) chain, was coming to 2000 Sansom St., an unfortunate looking corner property that’s held multiple businesses over the years.

In the past

Sansom Cleaners, Silvio, Dom’s Shoe Repair, and an Adult Book Store were the final tenants in this building. According to Foobooz, all have relocated to other locations with the exception of the book store. Tough luck for all those fans of fine adult literature out there.

In the past week or so, plywood has covered the existing building while construction had begun in earnest. While we don’t know exactly what the building will look like when all is said and done, we can only imagine it will be a dramatic improvement over what the building has looked like to this point.

Opening is still several months away, but this addition to our culinary scene is going to be a source of tremendous excitement and buzz between now and then. It seems appropriate to remark again on just how many worthwhile and interesting businesses are crammed onto that 2000 block of Sansom St.

And it just goes to show you that there’s always room for one more.

Can’t wait to knock down a milkshake that would put Johnny Rockets to shame.
