We were gliding down South Broad St. today, with thoughts of another parade in our heads (or at least a win tonight, please God), when we were stopped dead in our tracks by an orange Liquor License application in the window at 1131 S. Broad St.

BootPhilly?

In case the name on the application didn’t give it away…

Boot & Saddle Bar!!!

According to Foobooz, BootPhilly is registered to the same address as Avram Hornik’s Four Corners Management, implying that Mr. Hornik isn’t resting on his laurels after recently opening Union Transfer. We’re really excited to see this old favorite make a triumphant return to active use, and suspect that (the vast majority of) the neighbors are also very pleased.

As we mentioned a couple of months ago, Michael Petrogiannis will soon be renovating the Broad St. Diner. Whether you appreciate what he’s done at the Melrose or not, you can’t deny the benefit that a reopened Broad St. Diner will have for the surrounding area, especially in conjunction with a reopened Boot & Saddle. While controversy rages about the Welfare office opening in the new glassy office space next to the old Wachovia bank at Broad and Federal Sts., we remain very optimistic about the future for this area. And apparently, so does Mr. Hornik.

Now if only someone would reopen Philip’s Restaurant…
