Hopefully this June will not only boast the festivities of a First Friday in Philly, but also the opening of a new cheese eatery at 160 North Third Street, the Old City Civic Association tells us. Old City husband-and-wife team Kirk Nelson and Lisa Ruff have invited Rebecca Torpie, the previous owner of Flying Monkey Patisserie, to join them in opening Wedge + Fig, a cheese and sandwich collective shop. Torpie only just closed Flying Monkey Patisserie on February 1 of this year and (according to CityPaper) she thought the restaurant business was behind her. Instead, she now finds herself diving into the pool once again after Nelson and Ruff pitched her an appealing offer.

Only recently was this building home to Old City Cheese Shop until Nelson and Ruff purchased the spot in late March as it was in decline. According to the three, the shop will offer lunches and salads made from scratch, mostly using fresh ingredients. They will carry a great variety of retail cheeses, which at nighttime will be served on a sampling of dishes for cheap, to be paired with the BYO of your choice. Cheese and beer out on the back patio already has me sold; let’s hope this place can carry out its aspirations. —-Alex Graziano
