A reader emailed us last week about a new construction site at 2411 Christian St., across from the former W.S. Peirce School, vacant since 2007. While Christian St. in this neighborhood has numerous houses under construction at the moment, we haven’t seen nearly as much redevelopment or new construction on this particular block.

A new hole in the ground

We don’t have any specifics about this property, only that it was purchased by the developer, Webster Investments LLC, for $82.5K a little less than a year ago. Webster owns a few parcels in other parts of town, notably three lots in Kensington that are listed, pre-construction, at $389K-$419K. We’re guessing that the new construction will conform to the zoning of the lot, and a three-story home will soon occupy this long-vacant parcel.

Looking west on the block

Whether the developer will conform to many of the other homes on the block, with a mansard roof with vinyl siding, we’ll have to wait to find that one out.

In the meantime, it’s good to see some development on this block, one that would likely benefit most from renewed life and activity in the vacant Peirce building.
