Just when you thought we didn’t have anything else to say about the 1500 block of South St., we’re pleased to inform you that 1546 South St., the building on the southeast corner, has been rented by a State Farm insurance and financial services office. You may remember that this corner was once home to the Tree Man mural, by Jacob Landau.

Life on the corner!

We spoke with Judd Greenberg, the gentleman who will be heading up the office, who seems to take a holistic approach to insurance. The office will, of course, have policies for auto, disability, life, and all the other standard offerings, but will also provide financial management advice and financing. Mr. Greenberg wants the office to be “somewhere to go not just to get a policy but to talk about what kinds of security you need and… how to protect yourself from everyday life risks.”

Greenberg also seems genuinely excited to add to the commercial mix on South Street West. He was enthusiastic about opening an office in a “growing area with a tremendous amount of potential,” and he’s optimistic that the area will “continue to get more commercial.” Being on a busy corner in a new building was also a strong selling point.

The office will be open for walk-ins Monday through Thursday, 9am-7pm, Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 10am-2pm and Sunday by appointment. The late weekday and weekend hours will be an effort to cater to the neighborhood where most residents who aren’t students are working nine-to-five jobs.

The office opens on January 2nd.
