A new dining option for Fishtown appears to be on its way to the corner of East York and Gaul streets.

Construction has been underway for about two months inside the first floor space inside 2424 Studios. The management of the unique three-story office building declined to comment on its new tenant at this time, but sources who work in the building said they’ve heard that a new restaurant should be open by the end of the year.

Outside view

A glimpse inside reveals a counter or bar is being built inside, giving some credence to the restaurant rumor. The corner unit (106) where the construction is taking place covers 1,733 square feet, according to a floor plan of the building.

A peek inside

A diner or quick service type restaurant would make a nice addition to the neighborhood in general and the building, which opened in 2009 after it was converted from its industrial use as a plastic wheel manufacturing facility. The building now has more than 60 tenants according to its website. Its 6,100 sqft Skybox also regularly places hosts to art openings and large events, including the Fishtown Neighbors Association Chili Cook Off this past spring.

We’ll keep an eye on this project, and give you some more details as it progresses and more information becomes available.
