On the agenda for the Fishtown zoning committee meeting a couple of weeks ago was a proposal for the establishment of a new bakery at 1255 Marlborough St., formerly a corner store. This corner store, fortunately, had relatively tasteful signage, in contrast to some other stores we’ve seen of late.

The space

While we weren’t able to get ourselves to the meeting, we were able to catch the drift of the proposal from a lengthy conversation on Fishtown.us. Near neighbors were hoping for a full service bakery, specifically a retail outlet from Metropolitan, which does wholesale baking just a few blocks away. Instead, it seems they’ll be getting a more sweets-styled bakery from Zynthia Martinez, according to this story from the Northeast Times Star.

From further away

Zynnie Bakes bakery will offer cupcakes and other sweets, with plans of possibly offering breakfast foods and other baked goods in the future. The community gave overwhelming support to this project, which means that this business will almost definitely be dishing out delicious goodies at some point later this year. The addition of this bakery means company for nearby Whipped Bake Shop, but a neighborhood can’t have enough bakeries, right?

You can rest assured that we’ll check this place out when it opens up. Honestly, they had us at cupcakes and other sweets.
