A reader checked in recently, asking about the apparently closed or remodeling Fine Wine and Good Spirits store on the 700 block of South Street. We’ve been to this store numerous times, as a good friend lived above the store maybe ten years back. Needless to say, he saw some pretty interesting sights in the couple of years he lived there. But we digress.

In the past

Furniture store next door

Brauhaus Schmitz next door to the furniture store

As you can see, the liquor store was located at 724 South St., there was a furniture store just to the east, and Brauhaus Schmitz (which, incidentally, took over a furniture store when it opened) next door. Now, the liquor store and the furniture store are missing, while the bar is still very much doing its thing.

No wine or spirits?

And no $49 mattresses?

But worry not, spirits-loving readers! The liquor store will be back before you know it, bigger and better (yeah, it seemed impossible but they’re gonna find a way) than before. As you may or may not have heard, Brauhaus Schmitz did a little expanding this summer, taking over the rear of the old furniture store. With the expansion complete, the Fine Wine and Good Spirits shop is taking over the rest of the space, and should be reopening rather soon. In the meantime, you can get your overpriced, irrationally state controlled booze fix from the store at 326 S. 5th St., just a few blocks away.

Hopefully, the new store will be careful with who they serve.
