A few months ago, we told you about four foundations that had been poured on the 1300 block of Bainbridge St., which represented the first phase of twenty-two new homes replacing a big surface parking lot on this block. Sitting next to a gas station and in the shadow of the 1352 Lofts, this project will represent the third largest private development to date in the Hawthorne neighborhood, after the Hawthorne Lofts and the aforementioned 1352 Lofts. Looking again at the site plan, you can see the impressive size of this development.

Lots of homes coming

The four foundations that we told you about in March are now fully framed out with facade work well underway. Standing quite tall next to the Hess station, they’re almost begging the place to be torn down and replaced with something with more height. Alas, we doubt that’s happening anytime soon.

The new homes

Closer look

Meanwhile, four additional homes in this development are also underway on the 1300 block of Kater Street. These homes are perhaps six weeks behind their brethren on Bainbridge, but the fact that they’re getting built already could be a sign that the developers are getting significant interest on the first round of homes. Notice the Kater Street homes are one story up thus far, with framing taking place for the second as we speak.

Into the sun a little

That's better

When finished, the homes will look like these renderings, from Harman Deutsch.

Bainbridge Street elevations

We’re still a little bummed that this development consists of single-family homes and not a larger mixed-use building, but we are very pleased to see that the homes are indeed going up as planned. Hopefully, buyers will continue to line up for these properties, and as they move further and further away from Broad Street and the gas station they will become easier and easier to sell. We’ll check back here in a few more months, when the first eight homes will hopefully be finished and the next round of new ones will ideally be underway.
