Last week, we told you about a proposed development on the 1300 block of Chadwick Street from OCF Holdings. This block is currently about two-thirds vacant, with a staggering amount of empty space on the eastern side of the street. Should this project get neighborhood support, we’ll see twelve new homes replace this huge vacant lot.

Current view

When we previously wrote about the project, we showed you a rendering from YCH Architects, the company that designed the OCF project at 20th & Annin. A healthy discussion of the project design has been taking place on the Newbold Neighbors Facebook page in recent weeks, resulting in a change to the proposed design. Check out this comparison:

The new design. Twelve homes will be built, though this rendering only shows six

What does everyone think? Do you prefer the original, extremely contemporary design? Or do you like the second, more traditional design with the mansard roof? As we said previously, the developer will be returning to Newbold Neighbors on August 22nd, and will present to South Philadelphia H.O.M.E.S. on August 26th. We’d imagine the design is getting closer to the final version, though additional feedback from the community could guide additional changes, if any.

Hopefully, this project will receive the necessary support from the community and the ZBA, and much of the block’s vacancy will fade into memory. As you might imagine, we’ll keep you updated as this project winds through the process.
