Bauhaus Homes on 2nd and Green Almost Finished

When we last checked in on the five new construction homes plus two condo units plus parking at 211-221 Green St. back in November, the buildings were framed and sheathed. As we mentioned in an earlier post, these buildings are being developed by a subsidiary of Tower Investments, on land originally purchased from the (now renamed) Citizens Alliance for Better Neighborhoods.

We happened upon this development the other day, and the homes look like they’re nearly finished and ready to go on the market. While they are definitely an upgrade over some of Tower’s other residential projects, and certainly unlike any other homes we can think of in the area, we confess we’re a little concerned in the long term.

The homes are mostly stucco, with what looks like plastic or composite bays. Aesthetically, we think we comprehend what they’re going for. But in practice, the folks who ultimately purchase these homes could regret the stucco color. The homes are, after all, a block off of Spring Garden Street, and a block and a half from the El. Doesn’t it seem likely that these homes will fade to gray in the years to come?

On the plus side, the future homeowners will have a view of the progressing Democratic Headquarters across the street. Hey, it’s stucco looking at stucco!
