After being postponed last week due to rain, the Jazz @ Julian summer concert series picks up on Tuesday, June 21st. The second season opens with Tony Cosby and Friends at 7PM and Ken Ulansey and Phyllis Chapell at 8PM.  Both Friends of Julian Abele Park and SOSNA orchestrate these free concerts  at 22nd street between Montrose and Carpenter, so round up some friends, grab a blanket or chairs, and go enjoy some (hopefully) good weather and sweet music.

The second installment of the series will be held on June 28th, where you will be able to enjoy the sounds of the Don Evans Band all evening. Additional dates through July and August will be announced in the near future. In addition to the concerts, the park also holds a Farmer’s Market every Friday from 3-7PM.

As we reported earlier, the park will be undergoing an impressive renovation in the fall, adding a permanent performance space and improving the landscaping. With this renovation and the resulting improvements, the three-year-old park will further cement its presence in the consciousness of the neighborhood. Julian Abele Park adds a crucial dimension to livability of the neighborhood both because of the open space it provides every day and the capacity for hosting events like Jazz @ Julian.

We can’t wait to enjoy some Jazz this summer, and we’re truly excited to see what’s next for Julian Abele Park. –Kaitlin Bostwick
