763 South 19th Street was the former site of Varick A.M.E. Church (check out the pictures of it being demolished “with care” here) and is currently a gigantic hole. Fred During tried (ah, zoning permits) a few years back to get approval for a 24-unit condominium with parking and failed because of the lack of funds. (Although you can check out the $1,600,000 listing and renderings here.)

On December 22, 2010, the vacant lot was sold to South Street Development (contact owner Brett Bates here) for $800,000. And finally, as of February 9, there was an application put in for the erection of 10 single-family homes with rear-access parking. Let’s hope SOSNA approves; nothing worse for a neighborhood than vacant lots, never mind gapping holes.
