Who wouldn't want to live at 22nd & Aspen? It's a wonderful Fairmount location right across the street from Eastern State Penitentiary. The Art Museum is just a few blocks away. The Fairmount Avenue corridor is nearby, with some wonderful restaurants and coffee shops.

But despite the very favorable location, an unattractive one-story garage has stood at this corner for many years. Recently, we learned thanks to a reader tip, that garage was demolished.

In the past

Earlier today

The parcel was purchased this year by Haney Property Holdings, a developer based in the neighborhood. Several months ago, they went to the ZBA and got approved for a variance to build a new four-story home here with a garage which we would guess will maintain the same curb cut as the doomed garage. When it's built, the views will be pretty sweet.

Across the street

The crowds once Terror Behind the Walls starts getting in gear? Not so much.

But that's the price you pay for this location. At least they'll have their own parking spot.
