About a month ago, we told you about plans for two new businesses to join the burgeoning Frankford Avenue commercial corridor- the relocated Philadelphia Record Exchange and new cafe Steap and Grind. Well, we were in the area today dodging raindrops and are happy to share the news that both businesses have officially opened their doors.
Steap and Grind is located next to Palmer Park and opened all of two days ago. In fact, we’re sitting inside the cafe typing this post right now! The cafe has a bright open space with a unique look to it, owing to the triangular shape of the building it inhabits. They’re serving Gimme Coffee, which is both delicious and uncommon in Philly, and have pastries from Le Bus, Metropolitan, and Nook. They also have a small sandwich menu.

The new record exchange, and a building a few doors down with a new facade which will hold a restaurant
About a block away, the Philadelphia Record Exchange recently moved to a new location at 1524 Frankford Ave. after a couple of decades at 5th & Bainbridge. This new location basically offers the stuff as their old place, just in a newer, cleaner, fresher space. We’re guessing they’ll find an eager and attentive fan base in Fishtown, perhaps hearkening back to what South Street was like when the Record Exchange first opened.
It’s so great to see new businesses continue to fill in Frankford Avenue, making it a more complete commercial corridor with every passing month. We look forward to seeing even more new businesses join the party in the months to come, and will certainly keep you abreast of anything that’s on the way.
