The garage in action

Olde Richmond appears to be gaining a new music recording studio, according to a recent application for zoning variance via the ZBA. A corner location at 2634-36 E Cumberland St, just off Aramingo Avenue near the Port Richmond Shopping Center strip, currently houses Clayt’s Auto Repair Center (previously an HVAC repair shop, and a paving company). The property is split into two spaces – the front garage for auto repairs and the back space for storage. Each space has its own private entrance. We’ll assume that the music studio would be taking over the rear space, and it’s possible that an auto repair business could continue to operate in the front. With the property set to sell at the end of the month, what stays and what goes will be up to the new owner.
There are at least ten other music recording studios sprinkled up and down Delaware Avenue and throughout the artsy Nothern Liberties/Fishtown/New Kensington area – will one of them be relocating to this prime location, or is a new music master is breaking into the Philly scene? We’ll be keeping our eyes… and ears open.
