While it’s still only a proposal, a proprietor for a potential lawn care business has apparently appeared quickly for the 51st & Baltimore corner we wrote about last month. Greensgrow Farms might occupy a long-time vacant lot and rehab a long-time bruised building across the street that looks like it could have been a foe of the Broad Street Bullies.

The lot

And that’s just the kind of development Cedar Park Neighbors are looking for: locally-owned, something the community expressed an interest in having, and a type of business not yet found along the commercial corridor. Hat-trick.

“That to me,” said David Hinchner, CPN director of development impact, “would be something that meets some of the key overarching principles of development in the neighborhood.”

We also discussed those principles in a post about the recently published CPN Neighborhood Survey. While Hincher said that does not mean the CPN has already granted its approval for the Greensgrow center, it’d be a surprise if they did not. Greensgrow launched West Philly Fresh Food Hub last year. It’s a high-quality produce truck that meanders along Lancaster Ave. on different days.

Before the Greensgrow comes to that location, according to City Paper, they’ll look to acquire a propety across the street on the east side of Baltimore, 5043-45 Baltimore, now owned by the City. The 5000 block of Baltimore has been on a roll like Jennings on Jeopardy. Taco truck, jazzy juice bar, Babylon Bistro, oh my. Cedar Park is a growin’, and we are digging the view.
