A few months ago Oliver’s Antiques left its location at 21st Street and Fairmount Avenue, creating an opportunity for new business development in a top neighborhood retail location where foot traffic is steady. In its spot at 2052 Fairmount Avenue, across the street from Mugshots CoffeeHouse and Café, is the hair salon SNIP. Owners Sean Korban and Jeremy Burns committed to a three-year lease at the location, passionate to create a destination salon where “the focus is on giving great cuts, color and styling.” Interior décor boasts hardwood floors, black walls with white trim and deep comfy leather couches. While Fairmount Avenue is already home to a number of other salons and barbershops, like the Beehive Hair Salon at 2323 Fairmount, Agostino’s at 2449 and Shear Excellence at 2019 (which opened in the spring of 2009 and is on the same block as SNIP), Korban and Burns say they think their salon has a different personality than the others. For one thing, unlike other Fairmount salons, SNIP is open Sundays (9am-  3pm).

Korban, the main stylist, has been styling Philly hair for 10 years. He was trained at Jean Madeline and has worked at San Antoine in Haverford, South Street’s Charlie Salon and the Chop Shop at Temple University. Men’s cuts start at $30; women’s at $35; color treatments start at $20. If the cuts are as cool and sleek as the salon’s aesthetic, there may be a new hair fad in Fairmount. We’ll be looking. —-Lou Mancinelli
