We stumbled upon some new construction the other day, on a block we’ve visited several times in the last couple of years. Back in 2009, the 1200 block of Mount Vernon Street looked like this:

Empty space

After three projects filled in some of the vacant space on this block, the largest remaining gap is now being filled at 1205-07 Mount Vernon St. with a double-wide, extra-deep building with five units and parking in the front. Check it out.

Developers DSB Holding Co LLC purchased the lot earlier this year for a surprising $385K, leading us to believe that these units will be sold as condos, like Camac Court just down the street. Looking over the permits, only three of the units will apparently have parking. As for the parking, we can’t figure out whether a garage door will be coming into play here or whether the space will remain open, as we see in the photo above. Though the developers are different, the design from Harman Deutsch reminds us of another project right around the corner.

It’s really incredible to see just how much change has come to this block in a few short years. And this project isn’t the end of it, either. Don’t forget, there are plans in the works to convert the old power station at the end of this block into forty apartments in a really cool adaptive reuse. Though that project will surely take a little time to come together, the positive change it will contribute to on the block will be worth the wait.

Soon to be converted
