The Pineville is Coming Soon, It Just Needs a Wall First

If you were a longtime regular, everybody knew your name at Yesterday’s Tavern at the corner of Huntingdon & Gaul in Olde Richmond. Yesterday’s was a no frills neighborhood corner spot and one of a slowly dying breed of smoking bars in town, but for many in the area, it was a home base drinking establishment. But the bar business is tough and nothing lasts forever, and Yesterday’s closed its doors a couple years ago.

A few years ago

We wonder whether the shuttering of the bar might have been at all related to structural problems with the building. If you look at a Google Street View image of the building from last year, you can see that the entire side wall of the building was removed and replaced with cinderblocks.

On a tip from a reader, we visited the property a few days ago and discovered that the side wall is now missing entirely. Clearly there was some kind of structural flaw and the owner (Allan Domb ftw!) had to remove the cinderblocks to made sure the building remains intact. It was pretty cool to take a peek inside, though it’s evident that there’s a ton work to be done in there before a new business can open up.

For those not in the know, a business called The Pineville will be opening here, eventually. This concept comes from the owners of the Pineville Tavern, a restaurant near New Hope that dates back to the 1700s. According to Eater, the new Pineville will carry over some of the menu items from the original restaurant and will include some new options that fit within the elevated bar food category. The bar will cover both floors of the building, and all four walls, too. These plans have been in the works for about a year now, and with considerable work still ahead for the property, we’ll hold out hope for an opening by the the holidays.
