The Wood Turning Center is moving from it’s current location at 501 Vine Street to the Old Iron Works Gym in Old City at 141 N. Third Street. Opening in the fall of 2011, the new location will feature cosmetic upgrades including a polished concrete floor, impressive open mezzanine space and a museum store and lobby entrance on Third Street. Albert LeCoff, the executive director of the Wood Turning Center, shared some layout plans and his excitement for the new location. “We chose to stay in Old City because of the historical nature of both art and wood turning practices,” speaking of the rumored renovations to take place at the John Grass Wood Turning Company.
With more than 900 objects and 25K archived historical books and artists’ files, the museum will feature one of the most extensive collections of designs in wood and a combination of other materials. The Center itself has involved over 75 international resident artists, scholars and photojournalists, and boasts an impressive history of local and worldly exhibits.
