L’Oca Closed Forever. What Will Replace It?

According to Foobooz and Michael Klein, L’Oca, located at 2025 Fairmount Ave., has closed. The somewhat hilarious sign on the door confirms this.

After they temporarily closed over the summer (right around the time that Illuminaire closed down), we’re not altogether shocked that last call has come for this Italian BYOB. This does, of course, beg the question of what will replace this long-time neighborhood spot. With the Eastern State Penitentiary to the west and the still new and shiny Fare right across to the street to the south, this is clearly a desirable location for any business that’s looking for foot traffic.

What do people want to see take over this space? A new restaurant, maybe even another Italian place? A place with a liquor license, or no? Or maybe something completely different? Are there any goods or services that people in the neighborhood are lacking?

Whatever ends up coming to this space, we’ll miss L’Oca. We only ate there once, and it was a few years ago, but we appreciated it as a wonderful neighborhood spot, the likes of which every neighborhood would be happy to have.
