If you like seafood, oysters specifically, then Locker’s Restaurant on 8th and Vine Streets was the place to be. Back in 1868 this nearly riverside, awkwardly skinny restaurant boasted a specialty in oyster stew. A Victorian style portico had been embedded into what was an older style building, and judging by this picture it seems like this was the cool hang-out spot of the time. Today, this building is nowhere to be seen at this block. And the atmosphere seems to have changed a little bit with the introduction of the 676 Vine Street Expressway. —Alex Graziano
