If you’re like us, you ride your bike around town and stare death in the face on a regular basis thanks to drivers who aren’t necessarily on board with sharing the road. If you’re tired of fighting for your piece of the street, Sunday is your day to take it for yourself, along with thousands of others on bikes of all shapes and sizes. For five years, Bike Philly has closed numerous city streets to automobile traffic on the morning of the first Sunday after Labor Day, to give the bikers of Philadelphia their one day morning in the sun overcast skies with a chance of rain. Organized by the Bicycle Coalition, all proceeds from the event will go toward the effort to complete the Schuylkill River Trail.

Riders will have the option of taking a ten mile route through Center City, a twenty mile route that also goes through Fairmount Park, and a thirty-five mile route that goes into the Mail Line, on roads that will not be car-free. The cost of the event is $50/adult, $20/student, and $10 for kids. You can register online, and will need to check in between 6:30am and 7:30am at Eakins Oval, by the Art Museum. The ride will begin promptly at 8:00am, and will be all wrapped up by 1:00pm, leaving you enough time to get home for the Phillies game.

If you’re a bike person, this is a great chance to check out our fair city with no cars on the roads. If you’re not, do yourself and favor and don’t try driving anywhere until after 1pm, at least not in Center City.
