This week Joe Schiavo, vice chair of the OCC Developments Committee, informed us that councilman DiCicco has decided that the proposed street closing on Church Street’s one-hundred block will no longer proceed. Schiavo says that councilman DiCicco felt that this was too much of a contentious issue and that the results would be inconvenient. Residents of the area had asked in an April Development Committee meeting that the Streets Department eliminate the flow of vehicular traffic through this street with the installment of a bollard. Their idea also included removing five Permit 10 spaces from the north side of Church Street to allow two-way traffic and U-turns. Schiavo says that the said proposal is simply “impractical,” due to the already substandard size of the lanes. Their constricted size would also limit u-turn capabilities, meaning that people would instead resort to three-point turns.  He also adds that “the residents were upset about the [proposed] elimination of permitted parking.” —-Alex Graziano
