A big expansion is nearly finished for one local baker as the wildly popular “cupcake-centric” Philly desert chain, Brown Betty Desert Boutique, is moving its flagship shop in Northern Liberties from 1030 N. Second Street (inside Liberties Walk) to 722 N. Second Street (which, perfectly enough, is at Second and Brown). According to the shop’s handyman father (who was in and out of the store finishing renovations when I stopped by yesterday) the move was due mostly to the bakery’s need for more space. In fact, the Second and Brown location will be about three times as large as the one in Liberties Walk and have much more seating for people to sit and munch on their spectacular selection of cupcakes, pies, cookies and cheesecakes. The new Second and Brown location is set to open at noon this Saturday, May 21. —-Conrad Benner
