We never thought we’d say this, but the new construction going up at 2522 and 2524 Grays Ferry makes us almost think of crossing the Avenue (Grays Ferry). Almost. Next week you’ll actually be able to walk through one of the six town homes (they are currently putting the finishing touches on 2524 and 2522 is still under construction).  Four of the $425K town homes will have garages while two at $400k will not; all six will have about 2300 square feet of living space, which includes roof decks (living in this area affords you  unobstructed skyline views) and finished basements. While this area (really just a few blocks west of Graduate Hospital, a neighborhood called Devil’s Pocket) is largely unattractive or talked about, there are signs of life. Across the street is Healthy Bites (serving seasonal, local, organic ingredients, sandwiches and lunches), which came about after Toll Brothers finished construction on Naval Square, the first construction in the area that signaled change for the better at the northern end of Devil’s Pocket. Now with six new town homes on the corner of Grays Ferry and Christian anchoring Devil’s Pocket to the south, this little four-block wide neighborhood seems like it could very well be a great place to live. The South Street Bridge and Resurrection Ale House don’t hurt either. We’re not sure if these homes will sell or eventually turn rental, but we’re happy to see this ugly corner getting cleaned up after decades of neglect.
