Coffee House Blog

The place to see updates and breaking news about all five of our OCF Coffee House locations. We'll also be posting educational information about our coffees, teas, new products, and food vendors.

We like South Street so much that we've taken up residence again, this time on Head House Square! Serving the favorites you've come to expect from us -- craft sandwiches, all-fruit smoothies, tasty drinks with locally-roasted Square One coffee, and your favorite house-made pastries -- this location will also soon boast soft-serve ice cream. Are you thinking about affogatos on a hot summer's day? We sure are. Come visit us and people-watch at Head House Square or take your goodies with you to Penn's Landing to enjoy the views. In either case, see you soon!

We know you've been waiting with baited breath, but it's finally here. OCF Coffee House in University City -- 30th and Chestnut, to be exact -- is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week. We have Square One Coffee, Premium Steap teas, 110th Street bagels and spreads, and pastries from Kermit's, Amaranth, Au Fournil, and our own Fairmount cafe. Coming soon: craft panini sandwiches and fresh salads. Keep your eyes here for more info and hopefully we'll see you soon.

We are excited to announce our new partnership with local roaster, Square One Coffee. Though no coffee is grown locally, we're going as "local" as possible: Square One roasts their coffee in Lancaster, Pa, and they also have two great retail locations; one in Lancaster, as well as here in Philadelphia on 13th Street. Our coffee switch will be occurring gradually over the next two months -- first with what is currently known as "medium roast," but which has always been a single origin coffee.

Not sure what to bring to your Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving this year? Our Fairmount and South Street locations have a great selection of one-pound whole bean coffees that will make a great impression on your hosts, whether faithful friends or picky in-laws. At Fairmount, we'll highlight a couple of the options:

Our retail coffees are currently roasted in Milwaukee by Anodyne Coffee Roasters.

We have some new coffees coming in to the Fairmount location. As you might be aware, coffee is a seasonal product. It is grown on a bush-like small tree and cherries (the pit of which we call a "bean") is picked at prime ripeness, processed, roasted, and served according to an ideal timeline. Hence, our coffees change! Even our standby, Little Red Roaster, changes components throughout the year, though these components are chosen to keep the flavor profile as similar as possible. But on to the newbs, eh?
